Katherine Johnson, dies at 101

Katherine Johnson, the NASA mathematician in Hidden Figures passed away on Monday.

Fellow mathematician Dorothy Vaughan passed away in 2008 and engineer Mary Jackson passed away in 2005. Johnson was the first woman in the Flight Research Division to get credit for being an author of a research report. Her work played a major role in the first American orbit with John Glenn. She also worked on the Space Shuttle and the Earth Resources Satellite while also authoring or coauthoring 26 research reports. Johnson was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, in 2015, by President Barack Obama, which the highest honor an American civilian can achieve.
