This February is the annual observance of Black History Month in the United States. During this month we celebrate and acknowledge all of the things African Americans have achieved in the past from the Underground Railroad to Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” speech. Some of the many people who are being celebrated this month include Harriet Tubman, Jackie Robinson, Rosa Parks, Aretha Franklin, Duke Ellington, Frederick Douglass and many more. Every year, the American President chooses a specific theme for the month. This year the theme for the month is “African Americans and the Vote”. This was chosen in honor of the Nineteenth Amendment, which granted women’s right to vote.
