The bed frames for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the Athletes Village will be made of cardboard.

The beds will be able to hold up to 440 pounds or 200 kilograms, which is stronger than the average wooden bed. When designing the beds they had to plan for the possibility of celebrations after winning gold medals. The cardboard beds are subject to break if jumped on the same way a wooden bed would break. After the Olympics the bed frames will be recycled and turned into paper products. The mattresses can also be broken up into three pieces and have the firmness adjusted.
