Seventeen years have slowly passed since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, but America is still healing from the attack. Across the country, millions paid their respects to the 3000 who died in 2001. Customarily, presidents give speeches to acknowledge the event and say words of remorse and respect. While President Trump did indeed give an address, it was preceded by a controversial picture in which he appeared to be pumping his fists and grinning.
“I think it’s horrible,” said sophomore Shreya Vootkoor. “Trump can’t just disrespect all the people that died today.”
Vootkoor is not alone in her assessment of the photo. Many critics arose on social media who condemn Trump for his supposedly inappropriate conduct. This criticism only increased after Trump was seen giving a thumbs up outside the Flight 93 National Memorial visitor center.
“There are some lines you just can’t cross,” Vootkoor said.
