This year’s State of The Union was historic in many ways, as it is already largely regarded as the worst one yet by both the public and politicians. Yet, the majority party leader of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, is getting more attention than the president due to the way she clapped at President Trump’s speech.  Many viewers are calling it a “clapback,” and it has has very quickly become a meme.

“Respect to Pelosi,” said twitter user @RespectableLaw. “Circumstance demanded she clap, so she invented this weird walrus clap that was mocking, aggressive, and delightfully surreal all at the same time.”

This was not Pelosi’s only so-called “iconic” moment. Several times, Pelosi was seen rolling her eyes and pursing her lips. However, this moment apparently stood out to viewers as it included Pelosi making eye contact with the President and smirking. With current governmental tension such as the still unresolved issue of funding Trump’s border wall, we can surely expect more moments like this in the coming months.
