Monday, May 31st 2021, marked 100 years since the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921. To honor the historical date, President Biden traveled to Oklahoma and announced that his administration plans to decrease the race and poverty wage gap, citing a resolve to grow federal contracting of minority owned small businesses by over 50% in the coming years. However, the announcement does come with some valid criticism.
“President Biden’s budget fails to address the student debt crisis. Student loan debt continues to suppress the economic prosperity of Black Americans across the nation.” Derrick Johnson, the president of the NAACP said. “You cannot begin to address the racial wealth gap without addressing it.”
