The French Senate has passed a measure banning girls under the age of 18 from wearing the hijab in public places. The legislation also bans Muslims from wearing burkinis, modest swimwear for hijabis, and prohibits hijabi, Muslim mothers from attending field trips with their children. These bans are a direct act of islamophobia that will harm 4 million practicing Muslims within the country. Islamophobia has always been present within France, as past acts have prohibited Muslim women from wearing niqab and several other acts against Muslims has rapidly increased anti-Muslim hate in the country. This unjust legislation has sparked a social media protest where hijabis around the world are posting pictures with the words ¨Hands off my Hijab¨ written on the palms of their hijab. The legislation has not been fully approved, so thousands are protesting and ready to fight it off. People should be able to dress however they want especially if wearing certain religious garments help them feel liberated and are not harming anyone.
