Operation Varsity Blues, a Netflix original, was released this past March, just two years after the whole scandal was discovered. Essentially, in this operation, Rick Singer, a ¨college coach¨ created side doors for America’s rich to get into their dream colleges for a hefty price. He was able to get students into USC, Stanford, and even Georgetown, one of the most prestigious colleges in the country. Famous celebrities like Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman are just a few who used his services. The news was discovered and blew up in 2019 as this scandal was the largest college cheating scam in our history. Every person involved within the scandal is facing anywhere from months to years in prison. The documentary is shown through a unique perspective as directors used official recorded phone calls in the scandal and had actors play out the roles using these conversations. It shed light on the scandal as a whole as well as how unjust it is for regular students who are truthfully submitting their applications but were denied from their dream schools while rich celebrities are able to get in anywhere due to their money. Overall, the documentary is incredibly fascinating and a great watch.
