In the following weeks, Governor Ralph Northam announced that crowd sizes will be increased for graduations in Virginia. Since March 1st, Northam has announced that certain COVID-19 restriction will be lifted. With this, graduations, which are sorted as social gatherings, would be allowed to take place at an increased capacity. Per a press release from Northam’s office, outdoor graduation events will be held either capped at a capacity of 5,000 people, or 30% of the venue capacity. However, for indoor graduation events, the venue may have up to 500 people, or 30% of the venue capacity. Event organizers will plan depending on which one is smaller.
With a majority of senior events being taking away this year, graduation is the one thing many seniors are looking forward to. However, with a decreased amount of people, it can’t be guaranteed that all family can attend the event, which is causing a lot of unrest within the senior class. Currently, school administrators are working to plan a graduation, which will meet COVID-19 restrictions, but also allow students to have a memorable graduation.
