On March 3rd, a 33 year old woman, Sarah Everard, disappeared on her walk home in South London. She never made it home which resulted a missing person’s search and her body was discovered on March 10, about 50 miles from her home. A police officer, someone meant to protect and keep women safe, was arrested and charged with murder. Everard’s horrific story has resulted in a worldwide protest to address violence towards women and how women are never truly safe within their environments. Many are also sharing their own stories about violence against women and are urging society to educate men and make them understand the many consequences that come with being a woman. Women have been using the phrase “text me when you get home” to share their stories and connect with others throughout the globe. Women’s safety has always been a severe issue within society and women should not have to fear living through their daily lives. Immediate action should be taken to raise awareness on this pressing issue and it should be properly addressed by all.
