The sister of North Korean Dictator Kim Jong Un, Kim Yo Jong, released a statement warning the U.S. against military drills held in South Korea if they want to “sleep in peace” for the next four years. The statement came when Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin arrived in Asia for talks with South Korea and Japan about regional issues.
The meetings of Biden officials are efforts of the Biden Administration’s push towards diplomacy and deescalation when handling foreign issues. A senior member of the Biden Administration also said that U.S. officials have tried to reach out to North Korea since January, but had heard no response back until Kim Yo Jong’s statement.
