New York Times recently released a documentary on Hulu titledĀ Framing Britney Spears. The documentary follows the details of the pop-stars ongoing conservatorship battle. The singer has been under this conservatorship for twelve years now. This means that for the past twelve years, her father, Jamie Spears, has been in control of her decisions and finances. The documentary discussed concerning issues with the conservatorship and how Britney has seeked legal action to take her father off of the conservatorship, but her request was denied. This lead to the large social movement: FreeBritney.
Many celebrities and high profile people have spoken out on social media about Britney’s situation. They have shown their support for her and have urged everyone to watch the documentary on Hulu to be more informed on her situation. Celebrities like Miley Cyrus, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kacey Musgraves were among the many celebrities who tweeted “#FreeBritney” in support of her. The documentary also presents issues with misogyny in the music industry, and how Britney was taken advantage of. Kacey Musgraves talked about this, and said: “Everyone should watch The NY Times documentary on Britney Spears that just came out. Never has one person been so used and abandoned by every facet around her. My heart goes out to her. She has always been such an inspiration to me my whole kid/teen life.”
