It is pretty known that award shows are rigged and in it for the money, but this years Golden Globe nominees snubbed so many good movies, shows, and actors, that it’s starting to get ridiculous. For starters, Netflix received 42 nominations. Of those nominations, “Emily in Paris” got two, despite the facts that viewers described it as fluff. “The Prom” also received nominations, including James Corden, who is a straight man and played an offensively gay character in the film, and has also received a lot of backlash for his role.
Although most award shows are rigged, the Globes in particular tend to only nominate films that are widely seen, rather than films that are better and deserve to be more widely seen. They do this for the money, obviously. By nominating highly watched films (whether they’re good or not) they tend to get more viewers of the award show and receive more endorsements. Though this is unfair to those who deserve nominations but didn’t get one, it makes sense money-wise for the Golden Globes. Many actors were furious about the nominations, and took to Twitter to express their feelings. “The Maze Runner” actor, Dylan O’Brien tweeted his frustration saying, “Golden Globes are laughable. Not only is ‘May I Destroy You’ absolutely f***ing brilliant, it should be required viewing. Apparently you can be TOO far ahead of humanity @MichaelaCoel we don’t deserve you.”
