After a year-long hiatus, pop singer Ed Sheeran dropped a stand-alone single just days before Christmas. The song is a typical Sheeran-sounding acoustic ballad that features just his voice and a guitar. Along with the song, Sheeran released a video of him playing the song in a beautifully twilight-lit field. It was the perfect scene for this beautiful song.

Fans of Sheeran’s were hopeful that this release would be the beginning of an album release, however Sheeran stated it was unrelated to his upcoming album. He claimed it as time for him to get back to “daddy land” and spend more time with his wife and daughter. In his Instagram post announcing the song, Sheeran said, “Hey guys. ‘Afterglow’ is a song I wrote last year that I wanted t release for you. It’s not the first single from the next album, it’s just a song I love, and hope you love too.”
