Moderna reported promising results from their Covid-19 vaccine trial on Monday. This vaccine comes just a few days after the Pfizer vaccine announcement. The Massachusetts-based company conducted a blind trial and offered either the Moderna vaccine or a placebo to volunteers. In the trial, out of the first 95 participants who had gotten the disease, 90 received the placebo, and the other five received the vaccine. However, the five who received the vaccine only experienced mild symptoms. The results from this trial led the board to estimate that the vaccine is 94.5% effective.
While many were hoping for a vaccine to be implemented by the end of the year, the earliest projection for the vaccine to be made accessible to the public is early spring.
