13 men have been charged for an alleged plot to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan. Of those 13, six were charged federally with conspiracy to kidnap, and the other seven were charged by the state for their association with the Wolverine Watchmen (a local armed group). According to federal and state officials, those who were involved planned to overthrow several state government because they believed they were “violating the U.S. Constitution”.
As more information is gathered during the investigation, authorities are becoming increasingly aware of extremism and extremist groups. The Boogaloo movement, which law enforcement believes suspects are supporters of, is an emerging extremist group that has begun wreaking havoc in many states and is believed to be linked to the attempted kidnapping.
