The Marlins, after a 105 loss season in 2019, have clinched a spot in the playoffs. This is the first time in 17 years that the Marlins have made the playoffs. In a shortened 2020 season, the Marlins finished with 31 wins and 29 losses in route to the six seed in the National League. They are seeded to play the Chicago Cubs in round one of the playoffs. The last time the Marlins made the playoffs was in 2003, where the Marlins beat the New York Yankees in six games. Besides that 2003 season, the Marlins had made the playoffs only once before in their franchise’s history, and that was in 1997. The Marlins also won that World Series, but this time it was in seven games over the Cleveland Indians. So, the Marlins make the playoffs for the third time in franchise history this year. It will be interesting if they can win the World Series for a third time in three tries.
