Injuries are pretty common in the NFL. It is a contact sport. However, week two of the NFL season contained a concerning amount of injuries. There were a few teams hit harder than others, but no one was hit harder by injuries than the defending NFC champion 49ers. Their starting quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo missed the second half of their game against the New York Jets and will miss next week too with an ankle injury. Their star defensive lineman Nick Bosa is done for the season with a likely torn ACL. Solomon Thomas, another defensive lineman was carted off the field with a knee injury. Their first two running backs, Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman, also left the game with knee injuries. That is only one team.
The Giants lost their star running back Saquon Barkley for the rest of the season, and the Panthers lost their star running back Christian McCaffrey for a few weeks. The Denver Broncos lost their quarterback, Drew Lock, for a few weeks with a shoulder injury, and their best receiver Courtland Sutton for the rest of the season with an ACL injury.
