This coming Sunday, the popular social media app TikTok will be restricted in the United States when the Trump administration’s executive order takes effect. Distributing the app to users will, from now on, be prohibited under this order.
“I’m not a big fan of the app, but I feel like this sets a precedent,” TikTok user Noah Li commented. “I mean, doesn’t this infringe on our freedom of speech?”
Whether it is an infringement or not, the app will be accessible with some changes until November 12th, according to the Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross. After then, it faces an all-out ban, much like fellow app WeChat.
“Trump’s just mad that they booked out his rally,” Li said, alluding to the protest that took place earlier this year where TikTok users filled up spaces in a Trump rally to prevent an audience from attending. “He’s just bitter and taking it out on this.”
