Severe Damage after Tornado Warnings Take Over the DMV

Late Thursday night, February 6th, many areas of D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia were hit with severe wind and rainstorms causing major damage to homes, roads, and more. The storms seemed to come out of nowhere leaving thousands without power through Thursday night and continuing in to Friday.

Countless roads have been blocked off due to fallen trees and wires causing an inconvenience for many in these areas as well as a safety hazard. Downed trees are likely to continue in response to the combination of consistently high winds and wet ground leaving the roots unstable.

This type of storm is not typical in the DMV during the winter season which is why it is under investigation as to where it came from and to see if there is more to come. According to StormTeam4, the events of February 6th were the earliest ever tornado warning recorded in the D.C. area.
