Controversy occurred at the 145th Kentucky Derby on Saturday. Maximum Security won the race, but after a review of the footage, Maximum Security was disqualified for leaving his lane and impeding another horse. Second place horse Country House was declared the winner.
Stewards spent over twenty minutes reviewing the footage from different angles before coming to their decision. According to Fox News, the stewards cited a section of the rules that called for disqualification if “a leading horse or any other horse in a race swerves or is ridden to either side so as to interfere with, intimidate, or impede any other horse or jockey.”
