The first black hole ever captured on camera was released to the public yesterday. It is 6.5 billion times the mass of the sun, and it has been destroying the insides of a galaxy which is 55 million light years away. It measures about 25 billion miles across, which is about the size of our solar system.

It was captured by synchronizing eight radio telescopes on four continents. Four teams on supercomputers needed two years to put the data together.
