On Thursday, Vice President Pence and his wife hosted Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar and his male partner Matthew Barrett for breakfast at the Naval Observatory for the Friends of Ireland. Pence apparently had invited Varadkar to bring his partner after the previous year’s visit.

“I stand here, leader of my country…judged by my political actions and not by my sexual orientation, my skin tone, gender or religious beliefs,” Varadkar said.

Hosting Varadkar and his partner contradicts much of Pence’s ideology as he has been seen openly associating with conversion therapy groups such as For the Family and has donated large sums of money to such groups.

“I think it really contradicts Pence’s MO,” an anonymous senior said. “I feel like he’s trying to cover up his real intentions by being civil.”
