Four tornadoes hit central Alabama on Sunday, killing twenty-three people. One or two people are still unaccounted for.
Three of the tornadoes were categorized as EF-1s, but one
of the tornadoes in Lee County was an EF-4 with winds measured at 170 mph.
More people died from these four tornadoes than from all the tornadoes that occurred last year. Overall, ten people died from tornadoes last year. The EF-4 tornado was also considered the deadliest U.S. tornado since 2013.
