President Trump revealed last Friday that his second meeting with the North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un would take place in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi. This came days after the meeting was announced in the middle of Trump’s State of the Union address.
“Chairman Kim and I will meet again on February 27 and 28 in Vietnam,” Trump said, while not mentioning the specific venue at the time.
Now that the date and venue for the summit has been set, all parties concerned with the peace talks are getting busy. Vietnamese Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh visited North Korea this week, and US State Secretary Mike Pompeo met with South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha on Thursday in Warsaw, Poland, just to name a few.
“The first meeting succeeded in breaking a barrier,” said former Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Joseph Yun, “the second meeting must show results.”
