Recently, the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, has fired the ambassador to China after the ambassador said that the US should drop its suggestion for a Chinese executive arrested in Canada to be extradited.

John McCallum made his comment on the Toronto Star, one of Canada’s leading newspaper. Before he made the comment, he made a statement about another comment he made, saying that he “misspoke” about how Meng Wanzhou, the daughter of the founder of the Chinese tech company Huawei, has a good case against her extradition. The US stated that want her extradited due to her fraudulent business dealing by misleading banks about Huawei making dealings with Iran.

“Last night I asked for and accepted John McCallum’s resignation as Canada’s Ambassador to China,” said Prime Minister Trudeau. China detained two Canadians after the arrest of Meng Wanzhou. McCallum also said to the Chinese media that the extradition of Meng would not be a good idea.

It is unsure whether the arrests were done in response to Wanzhou’s. Chinese officials have denied any association.
