North Korean leader and Chair of State Affairs Commission Kim Jong Un visited China on a four day trip, meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping several times. Experts believe this is a strategic move by Kim as the second Trump-Kim summit, according to President Trump, is coming up.

“It makes sense,” said former White House adviser Dennis Wilder, “for Kim Jong Un to continue to consult face to face with the Chinese president to increase his leverage and to show that Chinese are with him that he has their support as he goes into further negotiations.”

When he was not in a meeting room with Xi, Kim looked around Chinese industrial and cultural facilities, such as a pharmaceutical factory in Beijing. Later, Kim offered Xi to visit North Korea in near time, and Xi accepted the invitation.

“I would say Chairman Kim’s visit to China is a sign that the second North Korea-US summit is coming up very soon,” South Korean President Moon Jae-in said in his new year’s press conference. “The Kim-Xi summit will probably play a very positive role in fueling a successful Trump-Kim summit.”
