Amazon recently announced that their second headquarters will be split between Arlington, Virginia and Long Island, New York. Each location will have 25,000 workers, and both will receive a $25,000 investment from Amazon. Jobs at both locations are expected to have annual salaries of $150,000. Each location will have four million square feet of office space with the possibility of expanding to eight million square feet.

By splitting the headquarters between two locations, Amazon believed that they could recruit more skilled workers and offer employees choice. Amazon said they picked locations that could easily attract new employees and had an abundance of talent. Their criteria also included access to a major airport and a suburban or urban area with over on million people.

The Arlington location will be located in a new place that Amazon is calling “National Landing”. It will be less than three miles from downtown Washington D.C., and the new area will include parts of Pentagon City and Crystal City in Arlington and Potomac Yard in Alexandria.
