Jemel Roberson Shooting

Jemel Roberson, former security guard at a Chicago bar, was shot and killed by police after apprehending a shooter on Sunday night. Roberson was said to be working an extra shift to buy Christmas presents for his nine-month-old son.

“[Roberson] was the quintessential good guy with a gun,” said family attorney Lee Merritt. “But he still had to face the reality of being a black man in America.”

Claims made by Illinois State Police say that Roberson was wearing no uniform to identify him as security. However, many witnesses have stated that he was wearing the customary hat and shirt declaring him as such. Additionally, Stringer Harris, one of Roberson’s friends had a picture dating back to September in which Roberson was wearing the ensemble as he normally did.

“We won’t get justice tomorrow, we won’t get justice today,” said Harris in a statement to CBS.

Protestors gathered on Tuesday outside the Midlothian police department with cries of “Justice for Jemel.” However, whether justice will be served or not is still to be seen.
