On Monday an Indonesian passenger took off and crashed shortly after takeoff into the ocean. The plane crashed somewhere near the coast of Bekasi, West Java. The plane, which carried 189 passengers, is expected to have no survivors. Search and rescue officials said they lost contact with Lion Air flight JT610 just 13 minutes after it left Jakarta. The reason for the crash is still unknown. The plane was issued a certificate of registration and airworthiness in August and the captain, Bhavye Suneja, had over 6,000 hours of flight time and the co-pilot had around 5,000 hours according to Lion Air. With the recent event, some nations have advised people not to fly with Lion Air. In fact, Lion Air was added to the European Union’s blacklist of banned carriers in July 2007. However, it was removed from the list in June 2016, according to the Aviation Safety Network.

At this point, officials are more concerned with finding out what happened and alerting the families of the passengers. Of the 189 passengers, three of them were children, six of them were cabin crew and there were two pilots. In addition to that, there were 20 ministry officials on board.
