Flu season has arrived, which means flu vaccines. However, there are people who believe that these vaccines aren’t as beneficial as they are perceived. For one, you can still get the flu. The vaccines will definitely help push the flu aside for a long time, but even then, the flu can still find a way to come back. Another surprising con is allergic reactions. Some parts of the vaccines can actually cause an allergic reaction, some being possibly fatal too. Lastly, you could get Gullien-Barre Syndrome, a disease where your immune system can attack your nervous system, but this one is really rare.
There are also positives to the vaccines. For starters, it helps prevent the flu for the year, and although it is still possible to get the flu, the vaccine helps minimize its wrath on your body. Another benefit is that you lower your risk of going to the hospital. Finally, you’re helping those who aren’t getting the vaccine or cannot get the vaccine by not getting contracted with it. This is a lot more community-friendly and something that convinces many to get the vaccine.
So, while the decision is up to the individual, doctors say the benefits to the population as a whole typically outweigh the cons.
