Hurricane Michael, a category 4 hurricane, slammed into the Florida Panhandle on Wednesday. It first hit Mexico Beach, Florida, near Tyndall Air Force Base. The wind speed when it hit was 155 mph. It is the most powerful hurricane to hit the continental U.S. in over fifty years.
States of emergency were declared in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. 1.3 million people are without power, and thirteen people have died so far: five in Virginia, four in Florida, three in North Carolina, and one in Georgia.
The effects from the storm are being felt all the way from Georgia to Northern Virginia; flash flooding and high winds have caused the most damage in North Carolina and Virginia, who are still trying to recover from Hurricane Florence.
