All American Boys Coming to Champe

Champe has the exciting opportunity of hosting two New York Times bestselling authors. Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely, authors of the novel All American Boys, will be coming to Champe December fourteenth.

All American Boys is a novel about two teens, one black and one white, who have to deal with the repercussions of a violent act that leaves the whole country divided by racial tension. One of the main characters, Rashad, is wrongfully accused of shoplifting and is beaten by a cop because he thinks Rashad is refusing arrest. However, there is one witness to the whole ordeal; Quinn Collins has decided whether to do the right thing or side with the cop who has raised him like a father.

“We were the most enthusiastic about the program,” said librarian Sarah Anderson.

Champe was selected because they requested the most copies of the book from the Loudoun County Public Library. Students who are in eleventh grade will have to read the book as apart of their English class. In addition to that, some students will have the opportunity to read the book in a reading group and will eventually lead a presentation based on the book.
