The U.S. Open last Sunday erupted in chaos as Serena Williams was seen arguing with the umpire and Naomi Osaka snatched the title. Osaka is the first Japanese player to win a major single tennis title, while Williams was up for her 24th Grand Slam trophy.

Williams was fined for several violations during the matches: $4,000 was for receiving coaching, $3,000 was for racket abuse (smashing it on the ground), and $10,000 for verbal abuse. The argument followed after the umpire gave a call on Williams receiving coaching from her coach who was sitting in the crowd. Williams fired back after the decision saying that she would “rather lose than cheat”. Williams’ coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, admitted to coaching from the stands, however, he thought that Williams didn’t see him, so she thought he wasn’t coaching.

At the awards ceremony, after booing from the crowd after Williams’ loss, Williams congratulated Osaka on her win and told the crowd that she’ll get through her loss, and urged the crowd to stop booing. Williams was Osaka’s idol, so winning against her was hard.
