America lost a great senator on Saturday night. John McCain lost his battle with brain cancer after announcing he was stopping treatment. His family announced on Friday that he was stopping his treatment after being diagnosed with brain cancer a year ago.
McCain was first elected to the Senate in 1982. He campaigned for president in 2000 and 2008, not making it into the 2000 election and losing to Obama in the 2008 election. McCain’s funeral will be held on multiple days: a private ceremony in Arizona’s State Capitol on Wednesday, a public service in Phoenix, Arizona on Thursday, and a funeral will be held at the U.S. Capitol on Friday, which will be live-streamed for the public to watch. McCain didn’t want President Trump to go to his funeral, however, former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush will be reading his eulogy.
