8 Most Remote Islands

  1. The Kerguelen Islands: Also called the Desolation Islands. This group of islands also have active volcanoes.
  2. Spitsbergen: Located near the North Pole, it is home to many polar bears. Its known for its rugged glaciers and frozen tundra.
  3. Pitcairn Island: A group of four volcanic islands located in the Pacific Ocean. It has a small population but the numbers are dwindling because of a mutiny.
  4. Novaya Zemlya: A group of islands in the Arctic Ocean, just north of Russia. Used to be a nuclear site during the Cold War for the USSR.
  5. Tristan da Cunha: A small group of volcanic islands. To visit, you need special permission by the Cunha government.
  6. Easter Island: Volcanic Island in the Pacific Ocean with large statues called the Rapa Nui.
  7. South Georgia: Located in the northern Atlantic, the highest temperature this island gets to is 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
  8. Diego Garcia: An atoll in the Indian Ocean that is a British military base.
