The Walkout

Today was a memorable day. Today we honored the families’ of the kids that died in Parkland, Florida because of a mass shooting. The event took place one month ago on Valentine’s Day. Even though Valentine’s day is supposed to be a day of love it was not for many families. Today at exactly 10:00 a.m. students in my school made the choice to walk out of the building and stay outside for 17 minutes to honor the students that passed away. They did have consequences and they chose to do it. An anonymous quote that someone said was “I walked out for a good cause, why should they punish us for honoring someone who passed away?” I later learned that it was for their safety and since they were outside the adults thought that the safest place to be was the classroom and since they weren’t there they were in trouble. I thought those people were brave enough to do it. I think someone should’ve gone out with them so that they wouldn’t get in trouble in the first place. Other people honored these families by doing an act of kindness.
