100 Word Challenge – February 24

Joanna was at my heels as we ran up the swirling staircase, racing towards the balcony that held the giant catapult.

I hated slaying dragons. I would rather fly one, not strike it. But the kingdom needed saving, and that was my duty as a knight.

We reached the top, panting. We bolted on the balcony and… nothing.

“I don’t understand. I fixed it up yesterday, so where did it go?!” she shouted at me.

I don’t regret moving it. Dragons deserve to live, and I know what I did was right, even if I will die because of it.

  1. Angelina –

This is one of my favorite 100WC posts that you’ve written. You went in a completely different direction…dragon land! From the first sentence of this passage, you have us racing up stairwells alongside your narrator. I’m sure Joanna doesn’t suspect a thing, but you know the majestic dragon is protected; he’ll breathe fire another day. 🙂 I can’t wait to see the comments you receive about this post. 🙂

    Keep writing!

  2. Angelina,
I loved this story! I thought it was amazing that you created a fantastical story and still used descriptive language to set the scene. It kind of reminded me of the movie “How to Train Your Dragon.” Have you seen that movie before? Anyways, I really enjoyed this because I agree, dragons do deserve to live!
