Pictured above is Maria McDonald and Loudoun Soil and Water Conservation District Education Specialist Jennifer Venable (from Loudoun News).
One of ACL’s very own students, Maria McDonald, was featured in an article in Loudoun Now for her research project. McDonald is a junior at the Academy of Science, researching the genetic modification of bacteria to consume toxic plastics. McDonald has a long-held interest in genetics and a passion for environmental issues, serving as president of the ACL’s Green Earth Club. She is part of the Academy of Science’s South Korea Collaboration Program and is also working with Vishnu Alavala, a fellow junior at AOS, as part of it. Her project will be presented in the Loudoun Student Environmental Action Showcase, hosted by the Loudoun Environmental Education Alliance and Northwest Virginia Regional GREENetwork.
