On Feb. 21 the Freedom Gymnastics team brought home their third consecutive state title at Patriot High School. The team fought hard to earn their place. The team scored 150.425 points which is a new team record.

In the individual competition on the following day, two FHS students placed. Junior Riley Waldrop placed 6th on vault and sophomore Kelly Fangyen placed 2nd on vault, 5th on beam, and 5th on bars. Fangyen placed 2nd in the All Around competition in the state of Virginia.

“Physically, I prepared by practicing almost everyday leading up to states,” Fangyen said. “ Mentally, I was really stressed, so going into the meet I had to calm myself down with my teammates and coaches help.”

With the conclusion of the 2019-2020 season, ideas about next year are in the athletes minds.

“I’m really excited that we won and all our hard work this season has paid off,” Fangyen said. “I definitely hope we are on our way to a fourth consecutive title next year.”
