First Race Victories: Freedom Cross Country

Before the gun goes off, Freedom High Schools Varsity A Girls Cross Country team lines up, preparing for the race ahead.

The Great Meadow invitational in The Plains, Virginia, was the first invitational race for Freedom High School’s cross country team this season. Thirty-nine members of the Freedom cross country team ran on Saturday, Aug. 25.

Results/ Top Freedom Runner in event:

JV underclassmen girls: 5th place

Ruby Hunsaker, (10), 23:32, 18 points, 20th place

JV underclassmen boys: 3rd place

Joshua Gittelman, (9), 18:22, 4 points, 5th place

JV upperclassmen boys: 2nd place

Juan Figueroa-Badel, (12), 19:12, 6 points, 9th place

Varsity A boys: 8th place

Clark Smith, (11), 17:22, 19 points, 20th place

Varsity A girls: 6th place

Abby Church, (10), 19:51, 9 points, 11th place

Freedom’s next opportunity to run will be Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Rock Ridge High School starting at 4 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 8, Freedom will participate in the Pole Green Classic at Pole Green Park Lane. The meet will start at 9 a.m.

Morgan Maiden is a Senior at Freedom High School. Morgan is on the cross country, indoor track, and lacrosse team. Morgan is also a spin instructor at V Cycle in South Riding. She is also in many club at Freedom such as FCA, Environmental, and Kind club.
