My first piece is still a long way from finishing For my art 4 class, I did a color pencil drawing of a cowboy or lone ranger, sitting by the fire in the dark night. I made it a darker mood because I wanted to emphasize the dramatic skin tones, focusing on the man’s face basking in the light of the fire in the dark night. I could also interpret as if the guy is going through something deep. I made him look very lonely, only with his trusty horse by his side, I haven’t gotten far but in his hand he’s gonna hold a doll. It’d represent him mourning over his family, who knows, maybe he lost all of his family. I struggled with my timing because I wanted to incorporate so much shading that I lost track of time. I feel like I learned more about color pencils from this piece because I don’t often use color pencils as much as I like to. I found that using markers as a base layers could set a foundation and I just build up layers from that. I do feel like some of my shading is too bold and the wrinkles were not clearly defined in the man’s scarf so I’ll make sure to use sharper colored pencils instead of dull tips.
This is amazing! Your sense of color and depth is so accurate! When I first saw this piece, I was wondering why the cowboy had a more reddish skin tone. Knowing that he is going to be in a campfire night sky setting makes the coloring fit perfectly. I was especially amazed at how well you colored the white shirt! I might just suggest adding some more warm tones in his clothing, since his face reflects a lot of the color already. Otherwise, I can’t wait to see the final outcome!
