According to Girls Who Code, “In 1995, 37% of computer scientists were women. Today, it’s only 24%. The percent will continue to decline if we do nothing. We know that the biggest drop-off of girls in computer science is between the ages of 13 and 17.” Girls Who Code is on a mission to change the game and reach girls all over the world! They are on track to close the gender gap in new entry-level tech jobs by 2030! Through their in-person programming that includes summer immersion, clubs, and college loops they have served over 450,000 girls!

This summer 9 Chesapeake Public School Students and 28 Loudoun County Public Schools students will be participating in the Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program. We are thrilled to see what these students learn and bring back to our communities!

Chesapeake Public Schools will also be offering an in-person Girls Who Code Summer enrichment program with rising 6th-8th grade students July 19-22 and July 26-29!  By Learning the Girls Who Code Core Strengths of Bravery, Resilience, Creativity, and Purpose we know these students will be prepared to lead the way!!
