Students in Chesapeake have been busy this summer engaging and learning all about STEAM. Chesapeake has been offering many exciting programs! Our rising 5th-grade students have been able to participate in a CTE program at five different middle school locations throughout the city. These rising 5th graders rotate each day between Computer Science, Family and Consumer Science, and Technology Education. Our middle school students (rising 6th-8th) have been able to participate in an in-person Girls Who Code, Entrepreneurship/Coding & Robotics, and Let’s Get Cooking Culinary Enrichment programs. Students have also participated in a Virtual Code Beats program in partnership with VCU and ten 8th grade students completed a Virtual Cybersecurity Externship. All students have been having a blast! A recent message from a parent explained, “Just wanted to let you know that our daughter thoroughly enjoyed the Girl Who Code Camp this week. She came home each day very excited about what had happened each day. Thank you and all the admin/instructors that made this happen!”
