For most of this school week, many Freedom students anxiously huddled over the phone, waiting for Wayde Byrad to ring them up with good news.

Over the past weekend, the National Weather Service showed that there were over nine inches of snow in some areas of Loudoun County. While students did have Monday, Jan. 14, off to enjoy the snow, many expected to enjoy a relaxing day off on Tuesday from a school foreclosure due to icy roads and prevalent amounts of snow on the sidewalks and streets. This, however, was not the case as FHS students and teachers alike came to school two hours later than the standard time.

For senior Ali Khan, driving in the inclement weather was dangerous since there was still snow on the roads in his neighborhood and his car would slide down the road every time he pressed the brakes. Many drivers, including Khan, felt scared to drive to school under dangerous road conditions and felt as if school should have been cancelled on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

Although many students enjoyed a day off from school on Monday and two two-hour delays on Tuesday and Wednesday, others felt anxious since they were missing school hours to make up work as the end of the second quarter approaches.

Either way, FHS is anticipating yet another snowfall this weekend, with chances of snow this Thursday, as all after-school activities were cancelled due to likely precipitation of snow in the evening.
