Student Council: The Overview
Brenna Simmons, October 13, 2023, Communication Studies Classroom
Only a few days ago, students voted for the SCA Elections. Just recently have they gotten their results. It isn’t what they expected, though…
Student Elections were done during all 8th Grade Advisory lessons on October 2nd, 2023. All students had voted on multiple candidates to be a part of the S.C.A and Student Representative. These votes were all recorded individually and the results were released on October 9th to October 10th, 2023.
The results consisted of 4 members of the student council, and 4 student representatives. These people were; Edgar Safarian as Student President, Gavin Bard as Treasurer, Jayden Pereira as Secretary, and Jeremiah Duran as Vice President. The 4 Student Representatives were E. Muskitta, Aurora Akinbo, Krishna Vadrev, and Claire Dzara.
However, some students aren’t fond of the voting results. Many students think that the votes were based on popularity.
“Yes, most S.C.A winners would depend on how popular they are,” said Aurora Turong, a candidate for Treasurer in the Student Council Association election.
“Rigged, the popular people are going to win because they are… Well, popular,” said Ray Jadhav, a Candidate for Vice-President in the Student Council Association Election.
Not many students are proud of this result, as they even noticed the fact that all four of the students of the S.C.A are deemed as “popular.” Some students even claim the Student Council Association members will be kicked out of the Council due to conflict between school responsibilities to do.
However, there isn’t any way to change the Student Council nor do anything to create a re-vote. Ms. Kreber confirms that if one student is kicked out of the S.C.A, another member of the S.C.A will take their place.
“I wish that it would be more merit based instead of a popularity contest,” said Ms. Kreber, Teacher in charge of the S.C.A voting, posters and auditions.
Many other students that have been noted in the hallways have noticed a specific event. The infamous Popeyes Dance made by Edgar Safarian, the President of the Student Council Association has been reported to make a supposed food themed dance for the school year.
Students say that the so-called Popeyes Dance isn’t going to be what everyone thinks it’ll be. Some students even take it to an extent saying they’ll drop out of River Bend if it actually happens. More than one student has said this, bringing it to the conclusion that some, but not many students aren’t satisfied with the Student Council Association voting results.
In the end, as many students could take their own opinion on how the voting had gone, there is no way to change this responsibility unless the student is kicked off due to stern misbehavior or tomfoolery.
Here’s the process of my newest article, showcasing the information about the Student Council Association at my school. First I went to interview a few of my friends and a teacher, as shown in my article. They said specific quotes that I needed, and I added them into there.
Secondly, I used the information I had already learned, explaining how many students thought about the S.C.A and who was in the S.C.A.
Overall, there wasn’t a lot of information, but I got the job done and finished the article with what I could get. I hope you enjoyed reading my article about the Student Council Association in RBMS!
