Hamster

If you know rodents well, you would know that hamsters are nocturnal. Nocturnal means that you gain all your energy and sleep during the day and function being awake during the night time. It’s opposite for humans, so if you like a healthy sleep then i wouldn’t suggest keeping your pet hamster in your room with a wheel all night! These small rodents love treats, they can keep them stored in pouches located in their cheeks, they will spit them back up to eat later. Fruits and veggies are about 10% of a hamsters diet. There are 25 different species, but pet stores are known to only sell 5. These include, the Syrian, Dwarf Campbells Russian, Dwarf Winter White Russian, Chinese Dwarf, and Roborovski Dwarf. The average litter is about 8-15 babies. Make sure your pet hamster’s diet is good, supply a proper amount of food because they don’t overeat so you don’t have to worry about feeding them too much. An interesting fact is that hamsters are colorblind! When you are feeling under the weather, be cautious not to spend too much time around your hamster because they can catch illnesses from humans.

Elephant

Elephants are ginormous mammals! They are the largest living land animal. Male elephants can reach up to 3m tall and can weigh between 4,000-7,500 kg. They are known for their big ears, trunks and their tusks. A fun fact is, their ears are shaped like the content Africa, and that is where they originated! Their tusks are made out of ivory, which is a rich substance used to make ornaments and jewelry. Every year, elephants are being killed for their tusks by tens of thousands of people. More than 80% of herds are missing from some regions. Thankfully, it is actually now illegal to kill an elephant. These animals spend up to 12-18 hours everyday just eating grass, plants, and fruit, crazy! Eating all that food means they have to use the bathroom a lot. Elephant poo actually helps the soil stay fertile and disperses tree seeds. They also create footpaths and dig waterholes. They make a big impact on the environment, so don’t kill these magnificent animals!

Sea Turtle

Turtles are known as slow…but they can actually swim up to 22 mph! Sea turtles are reptiles that live in the ocean. They are can weigh up to 350 pounds. Depending on the species, they can be herbivores, carnivores, or omnivores. Now that’s pretty cool! They love to travel, and swim about 10,000 every year. Although, when female sea turtles are about to give birth, they return to the same nesting area where they were born. Sea turtles have been around 150 million years! Compared to dinosaurs, they only became extinct 65 million years ago, so that makes sea turtles some of the oldest creatures on Earth. If you want to keep these awesome animals around, don’t pollute!

Bunny Rabbit

Do you live alone? If so, have you ever thought about having a cuddle buddy? If so, then you should consider getting a bunny! Bunny’s are compassionate and lovable. A rabbit’s lifespan is about 8 years. Rabbits that are spayed or neutered can live up to 12 years. When caring for a bunny, it is important to feed them only healthy and fresh food because they cannot vomit. Rabbits are herbivores, and eat mostly grass and other plants. Rabbits are clean and easily to obtain, you can even train them to do simple tricks like dogs!

Horses

Have you ever went horseback riding? If you haven’t, I recommend you do! Horses are very loyal to their owner once they adapt to them, they were also domesticated by humans over 3000 thousand years ago. Horses can be trained to do many tricks and they listen well. Horses can live to be over 30 years old. They are very strong and powerful, so you have to make sure you don’t do something they don’t like, show them who boss is. The fastest record of a horse sprinting is 55 mph! Horses communicate their moods through their ears, eyes, and facial expressions.

Guinea Pig

Have you ever had a pet guinea pig? If not, I have fun facts about these common household pets. First off, if you plan to get a guinea pig, make sure to give them much attention for about 5-8 years, that is their average lifespan. Guinea pigs are herbivores, they love fruits and veggies, especially carrots! They also eat a variety of pellets, and timothy hay. Make sure not to overfeed them fruits and vegetables because it can eventually led to problems, like sores around the mouth. Guinea pigs are very easy to handle and are very lovable. They also usually stay clean, and rarely need baths. Although, they need their nails clipped about once a month. They are very funny, and like to make many different sounds. They get along with other animals, and they prefer to live with another mate. They are great pets to have!

Red-eyed Tree Frog

Hello everyone, today I am going to talk about red-eyed tree frogs. They are ambush predators, which means they sit-and-wait to capture or trap prey by strategy, rather than using speed and strength. Red-eyed tree frogs are known for their ability to jump. They are carnivores, so that means they eat meat. Red-eyed tree frogs can be harmful if you eat them, because they have poisons in their glands. If you are considering in investing in a red-eyed tree frog to have as a pet, just know not handle them, because they are toxic. However, they are amusing to watch. If you plan to get one, they prefer to live alone, so don’t get a second! If you give them the proper care that they need, then they can live up to five years.

Dalmatian Dog

Did you know that our first president of the United States favorite dog breed was a Dalmatian dog? Dalmatians are distinct for their piebald pattern. Every dal is different, most have black or brown spotting, but others have lemon, brindle, or blue spots. In fact, Cruella De Vil, staring in the film 101 Dalmatian Dogs, even wanted the cute dalmatian puppies skin because she thought it would be a perfect new print for her fur coat! Also, if you open up a Dal’s mouth, they even have spots in their cheeks and on the roof of their mouth! Despite all these dots, each and every dalmatian puppy is born snow white, they normally start to grow their markings when they are about four weeks old. Dalmatians are well known for being fire dogs and coaching dogs. Don’t forget, they are the firehouse mascot! This breed makes a great pet, and are good to make memories with. Although, without proper training, they can be willful and stubborn. These demanding dogs will need much exercise and attention. If you aren’t an early bird and can’t get out of bed to go on a long walk,  dal’s may not be the best fit for you.
