NASA landed their Mars lander yesterday. THE Mars. The same one that has had multiple missions fail.
Around 3pm EST, the lander, protected by a heat shield and paired with a very powerful parachute, it landed safely through The seven minutes of terror. So what will this lander be doing? Its main purpose is to collect data on the interior of Mars, the area we have least explored. This will be a start for the full test of viability for Mars.
What will it be doing today? Well, it will be starting its instrument deployment. This includes the Instrument Deployment Arm, Instrument deployment Camera, Grapple, RISE Antenna, Instrument Context Camera, SEIS instrument, Temperature/Wind Sensors, Pressure Inlet, UHF Antenna, another RISE antenna, a Heat Flow and Physical Properties package, and a heat flow probe.
The lander will not move and will be staying stable on the surface of Mars. The InSight mission will be going for 2 years(or maybe more if we take hints from some Mars rovers) and it will monitor the environment and will be taking pictures.
I am looking forward to the photos the lander will be taking. Also, this is an opportunity for me to learn more about Mars
This is fun! How long will it take to deploy the instruments? What made them choose not to allow the probe to move?
i love you
