halfway through the year already?

The 1st semester has been completed and tensions are rising.

The beginning of the year was just adapting back to high school. I think I started off okay but later on I struggled later with certain topics, especially with math and spanish. I don’t pay attention sometimes and I end up getting the wrong info or lost. Or I just make one mistake.  It makes me kinda mad that I have control of myself and I let myself slip often…

I’m glad that I’m doing well in Kopel, Ms. Runge’s and Doc’s classes. I hope to keep that up as long as possible.

During winter-spring there’s this one period of time… honestly I don’t know how to explain, I’m gonna call it the “hell period” because all you do is study and there is no motivation for anything. It’s during the time of exams and it’s not very far from now sooooo

What will I be doing? I’m putting aside social media like I did last year and I’m just going to use it to message people. I should also stop zoning out in class if I don’t understand something; that is such a bad habit I have and I really want to resolve it. I guess I have to talk to my teachers more often and get better habits at studying. I already had these in mind. You can say things but doing them is so much harder.

So those are my 2nd semester plans. Feel free to share yours & good luck!

listening to 90’s music + Friday

The most common type of music genre teens listen to nowadays is rap. Yet I realized that this generation’s music has its differences with all the other decades. The past week I decided to listen to past generation’s type of music, from the 90’s I mean. I have listened to lots in the past, but I decided to listen to it as a whole, without 1 song from the 21st century.

I’ve been listening to playlists made by people on Spotify and here are my top 10 picks for new people:

  • It was a Good Day – Ice Cube
  • 93′ Til Infinity – Souls of Mischief
  • California Love – 2pac
  • All About U – 2 pac
  • Hip Hop Hooray – Naughty by Nature
  • Shook Ones Pt. II – Mobb Deep
  • Gettin Jiggy with It – Will Smith
  • I’ll be Missing You – Puff Daddy
  • Hypnotize – Notorious B.I.G
  • Juicy – Notorious B.I.G

My favorite 90’s rap album is Illmatic by Nas. My favorite tracks are Memory Lane, The World is Yours, and Represent.

Following with the whole 90’s subject, I watched this movie with my brother 2 weeks ago. Friday is a movie about two  friends, Craig and Smokey, just making their way through life. They’re both 22, live in the same neighborhood, and unemployed. The day is boring, but the hours keep rolling as they make many discoveries/challenges. My favorite scene was when Smokey came on the face of a guy who got punched and said “You just got knocked the #@%* out!” This is on Netflix, so you can see it too!

lo-fi beats

Low fidelity (lo-fi) is a genre of music that is considered aesthetically pleasing. It’s not distracting at all. I listen to lofi because it’s just really smooth, pleasing, calmful… it can take you away sometimes and you can just daydream. It’s something you can listen to while laying on your bed with emotions. Most of the time, it’s just instrumental beats. I listen to this genre while I study because it’s the best type of music that you can work to and focus on material.

A couple popular songs that include lo-fi beats are Jocelyn Flores – XXXTentacion. The beat he used is called “i’m closing my eyes” by potsu. Potsu’s beat “falling down” was also used in Carry On.

My favorite artist is Shiloh Dynasty. He’s featured in several songs but his voice is really nice. There is a playlist on spotify dedicated to his music and features if you want to check it out.

My favorite song is greafer – letting go. I started listening to it in the 8th grade and I still do now!

dhs orchestra: pre-concert

Instead of reviewing on music outside of the area, I’ll be sharing about music performed in our school! If you didn’t know, I’m part of the DHS Intermediate Orchestra. I play the violin, and the majority of my class does too.  From last years auditions, I was elected concertmaster for 2018-2019 year. I have plans to make it into advanced group next year and possibly district orchestra…

Every year, we have two concerts: one for winter and spring. We are performing for the winter concert very soon. This year, our pieces are The Polar ExpressArctic Crossing, In the Bleak Midwinter, and Carol of the Bells. We’ve been practicing since September. The earlier we practice, the better we will sound.

Orchestra means a lot to me because violin is the first instrument I excelled at. My previous teacher had lots of faith in me and has influenced me to go for bigger challenges. I always accepted her criticism and it still influences me today. My teacher now also relies on me and is confident with my skills.

I’ve always enjoyed playing the violin, but pretty much the keys to my improvement are pushing myself and patience. I know a lot of people that I really thought it was impossible in the 5th grade, but years have passed and I gradually got better. Don’t expect to be a master within the first year.

Do you play any instruments?

R.I.P Peep – 11/15/2017

This post is about the well known rapper, Lil Peep. His career pathway started in 2013, but music began in 2015. Around August 2017, his album “Come Over When You’re Sober Pt. 1” was made. It hit charts and he was recognized by millions across the globe. His tour began a few weeks later. During his tour in November 2017, he overdosed to drugs on a tour bus. It lead him to his death some moments later. From yesterday, it has been a year since his death and I wanted to make this blog to recognize him as a little tribute.

About a week ago, “Come Over When You’re Sober Pt. 2” was released. Some songs I could recommend by him are Awful Things, The Brightside, Spotlight, Benz Truck, Broken Smile (My All), and Falling Down.

Rest in peace and thank you for the music.

weeknd recognition

The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye)  is one of my favorite artists of all time because his music is really great to listen to in the nighttime, which is my favorite part of life in general. It’s also really lively and his vocals are excellent. He is from my country, and although he doesn’t speak much of the language, we really support him and his career as an artist. I suggest anyone that if would like to listen to him, please do!

Timeline of The Weeknd:

  1. 2010- Career began with him uploading YouTube videos of his songs
  2. 2012 – Created his first album, Trilogy.
  3.  2014 – Recognized after being featured in Ariana Grande’s song “Love Me Harder”
  4. 2015 – He released Beauty Behind The Madness along with “Earned It” which he earned several awards for in 2016.
  5. 2016 – Released Starboy (includes Starboy and I feel It Coming)
  6.  2016 – Ends relationship with Bella Hadid and starts with Selena Gomez
  7.  2017 –  Uploads videos for songs on Starboy album
  8.  2017 – Relationship with Selena Gomez ended (dramatic)
  9. 2018 – “Pray for Me” is released with Kendrick Lamar
  10.  2018 – My Dear Melancholy is released, has lots of meaning
  11.  2018 – Abel is back with Bella Hadid

Do you like The Weeknd?

An Intro to This Album

When you order an album, some of the time there’s an introduction to what’s behind it, so why not make one on my blog? My posts won’t be all the time about music but it will mention it pretty often. My life consists much of music. I grew up listening to 2000s music on the radio and in 2010 I started learning how to play the piano. I love the sound of the piano, but overtime I faded interest in it so I moved to guitar in 2013, however it also wasn’t my interest either. In 2014 I began playing the violin and I still play it to this day. I’m also willing to give another try to play piano in the future. I try to improve weekly because I haven’t mastered an instrument yet, but that is one of my future goals!

Regarding me playing music, there’s mostly a song playing in my head in every moment, even when my earbuds aren’t around. And if I don’t remember the lyrics to the song sometimes I have the beat stuck in my head.I play to music that matches my mood at the time.  I appreciate most music and I won’t mind which genre is which as long as I like the song. But I don’t like songs that are overplayed or if the lyrics suck. Some of my favorites genres are indie, lofi, piano, and hip hop. My favorite artists are  Childish Gambino, The Weeknd, Linkin Park, Lil Skies, X, Nas, Tyler, The Creator, and Alina Baraz. Not sure if you know all of them or not, but I don’t care about opinions. I also like 20th century music like Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Billy Joel, Rolling Stones, and Kool and the Gang. But  I am not a huge fan of country, or pop music you hear on the radio usually.

People make their music based off of life experiences or based on their mood, there’s a lot of reasons. A lot happens in my life too that I can relate to. Anyways I know plenty of people that also like the music I listen to either with lyrics or rhythm. I have lots of friends that follow my Spotify and are familiar with what’s played nowadays, so I’m certain some, or majority of people can relate to what I listen to!
