After-School & Summer Enrichment

Gifted and talented students typically have an array of outside interests, and teachers and parents alike are seeking enrichment opportunities that offer exploration, nourish nascent talents, and challenge students both in creativity and critical thinking.
On this page, you’ll find a list of enrichment opportunities, from extracurricular pursuits to summer residential programs. These extended learning opportunities allow gifted students to study concepts with greater depth, breadth, and complexity. *This page will be updated as new offerings are identified.
RBMS CLUBS SY2022-23
After-school or online clubs offer “a more cooperative and relaxed approach to advancing already cultivated interests, skills, and creative work” (Olszewski-Kubilius, Subotnik & Worrell, 2018).
Advanced Math, Battle of the Books, Chess Club, Drama Club, Jazz Band, Manga Club, Nature Club, Newspaper Club, Raven Choirs, Science Olympiad, and more.

SUMMER ENRICHMENT – UNIVERSITY-BASED PROGRAMS
In conjunction with the UVA School of Education and Human Development, the Summer Enrichment Program offers two 10-day residential summer programs for gifted and/or high ability students currently enrolled in grades 4-10. Sessions take place in June and July at the university’s Charlottesville campus. Applications for the Summer program are posted on the website in December and are due in February. Tuition assistance is available to qualified students.
George Mason Community Arts Academy Summer Programs
Summer camps, programs, and workshops focus on both artistry and skill-building in the areas of music, acting/theater, visual art, and film and video. Offering both in-person and virtual programs for ages 5-adults with weekly programs running from June to August.
WGMU Summer Podcast & Radio Camp
Week-long day camp (9am-2pm daily). Students learn from broadcast professionals how to write, edit, and produce podcasts, produce a live DJ show, and write and produce commercials, promos, and public service announcements.
Hosted by George Mason University, the debate camp is Virginia’s largest debate summer camp. For grades 6-12, the GMU Debate Camp focuses on in-depth research, critical thinking, persuasion, argumentation, and communication.
Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth Summer Programs
Choose from exciting new course offerings for grades 2-12 in CTY’s LIVE, Problem-Based, session-based, and independently paced formats, each tailored to individual needs. Summer students have access to the new online social activities program, so they can talk, learn, and bond with like-minded peers.
For summer 2023, NOVA STEM camps are offered for elementary (rising 4th grade) to high school (rising seniors) students in daily 1-3 hour online sessions. Virtual campers will explore STEM and the engineering design process from home. The curriculum includes some hands-on projects coding with micro:bit and scratch, VEX robotics, fabrication, and cybersecurity tools.
